Fabricom Contracting Limited were engaged to carry out the demolition / removal and mechanical installation work as part of a major plant refurbishment to the BOC Margam site in South Wales.  Fabricom’s responsibilities included:

The removal of 24 existing heat exchangers and associated piping with sizes ranging from 2” to 42”;
Installation of 8 No. new heat exchangers, piping systems with sizes ranging from 2” to 42” tying into existing piping and equipment;
Removal and replacement of Cold Box Floor and perlite flooring (18 ton);
Fabrication and installation of exchanger spring hanger supports;
Pneumatic testing of all piping systems using dry air.
All piping systems were fabricated using aluminium, materials with sizes varying from 2” to 42”.  All piping systems were chemically cleaned to oxygen cleanliness and blue light inspected at the end of the fabrication and installation stages. This project had to be planned in detail to ensure the correct sequence of demolition and installation of new and old retained piping and equipment.
