Fabricom Contracting Limited were responsible for the fabrication and installation of the complete process system within the plant. This involved the installation of piping, vessels, tanks, preheaters, PAU’s, pumps and auxiliary air coolers. Full supply and installation of cabling and containment formed part of the Fabricom scope, along with the installation and testing of HV & LV switchgear, plus DCS control panels. In addition several of the vessels were also dressed and tested by Fabricom Contracting Limited at the Immingham Facility.
Due to major restrictions on access, egress and laydown areas, the project required meticulous planning and execution. Detailed communications between Head Office and the site based team ensured that equipment was offloaded and erected directly onto the specific job location. The project was successfully carried out by implementing the Fabricom Group FPCS computer based project management software. Collaborative working with subcontractors, the host site (BP Chemicals) and client was a major feature in the success of the project.
The project involved some 450,000 man-hours of multi-disciplined construction activity, including over 50,000 man-hours of piping fabrication undertaken at the Chester facility in Cheshire. As a separate order, the 21 pre-assembled racks, some weighing up to 190 tonnes were constructed at the Fabricom Immingham workshop, prior to delivery and installation at the site.
The Electrical and Instrumentation systems formed a large part of the work, with over 60 kilometres of cable installed and tested, plus some 450 motors and associated drives. Around 1400 instrument loops were installed, calibrated and tested by the Fabricom team.
